How Long to Beat
Fable's main story takes about 15 to 20 hours, with another 15 to 20 hours of side content, according to Playground Games' official FAQ, so a fuller playthrough is roughly 30 to 40 hours before the Order of the Hero expansion; players' measured times will come after the Feb 23, 2027 launch.
Fable's main story takes "around 15-20 hours", and its side content another "15-20 hours", according to Playground Games' official FAQ (Fable FAQ), so seeing the story and most of what surrounds it is roughly 30 to 40 hours of play. That does not count the life the game invites you to lead in Albion: more than 1,000 hand-made villagers to befriend, marry or employ, houses to buy and rent out, and businesses to run, which the FAQ lists beside the hours. Fable launches on Feb 23, 2027, with Premium Edition Early Access from Feb 18.

How long is the main story?
About 15 to 20 hours, Playground's FAQ says (Fable FAQ). The game opens with the Hero's childhood in Briar Hill, which Ralph Fulton, GM and Game Director, says lasts about the first 90 minutes before the story jumps ahead to the Hero as an adult (Official Xbox Podcast, Sep 9, 2026). The plot as officially told is on Story.
How long does it take to do everything?
The FAQ adds "another 15-20 hours of side content" to the story, and then names what is harder to count: "over 1,000 hand-crafted NPCs", along with housing, being a landlord and running businesses (Fable FAQ). Those parts of the game have no finish line. Every adult villager can be befriended, hired, dated or married (Living Population, Romance, Marriage and Children), and every house in Bowerstone can be bought and let (Property and Jobs). Hidden areas behind returning Demon Doors add more. A completionist figure has not been given, as of Nov 1, 2026.
Can you take your time?
Yes. There is no ticking clock: once the Hero leaves Briar Hill, "you can go pretty much anywhere", and the story was written so that "there's no ticking bomb", Fulton said; a player could head for the north of Albion, "get a job, settle down and get married" and the main quest would wait (Xbox Wire, Jan 22, 2026). How long a playthrough takes depends on how much of that life you live. The world is on Albion.
Does difficulty change the length?
Fable lets you choose its combat intensity, from Story upward (Difficulty Levels). Playground has not said how much the setting changes play time, as of Nov 1, 2026.
Is there more to play after the story?
Playground has not said what happens in the world after the final quest, as of Nov 1, 2026. More story is coming: Order of the Hero, a story expansion "in a new region of Albion", arrives after launch for owners of the Premium Edition, the Collector's Edition or the Premium Upgrade (official site, Jun 7, 2026); its length and date have not been announced.
How does it compare with the old Fable games?
The first Fable was shorter. GameBanshee's review of 2005 put its required quests at "perhaps 12 hours at most", with optional quests "just there for fun and profit" and Demon Doors guarding "such tasty treasures" for those who opened them (GameBanshee, Mar 28, 2005). The reboot's 15 to 20 hours of story plus as much again in side content is Playground's own figure; the series is on Fable Series.
