Characters

1:06 Fable's named characters are the Hero of Briar Hill (the player), Isabel, Humphry, Dave the Giant, Arden the Cobbler, Jenny and Jacob of Bloodstone, Connor, Grandma (Samira) and Nigel, the Sheriff of Silverbrook: the major roles Xbox and Associate Narrative Director Craig Owens introduced with their eleven actors on Jun 7, 2026 (the Hero has two voices). The story starts with the first of them in this clip from the Developer_Direct of Jan 22, 2026: the people of the Hero's village, "including your beloved grandma, are turned to stone by a mysterious stranger", and "suddenly alone in the world" the Hero sets out across Albion. Who plays whom is on Voice Cast; how the story fits together is on Story.

Quick facts

The Hero of Briar Hill

The player's Hero has no name: Xbox calls them the Hero of Briar Hill. "Raised in the sleepy, forest-bounded village of Briar Hill, our Hero is an ordinary person made extraordinary by fate," Owens said; whether they are kind or cruel "is all down to the player to decide", but they always keep a "wry, composed nature in the face of Albion's mysteries, dangers, and eccentric populace" (Xbox Wire). Lily Nichol and Ukweli Roach voice the two options.

Isabel

Isabel, the Hero of Wraithmarsh, is the game's villain: "a driven, powerful Hero on a quest to make right a tragic injustice", in Owens' words, whose grief "sets her at odds with The Hero of Briar Hill and Humphry, her one-time guardian" (Xbox Wire). Hayley Atwell plays her.

Humphry

0:06 Humphry the Golden, played by Matt King, introduced himself in the 2024 trailer from a chair in the dim Heroes' Guild as "perhaps the greatest Hero of them all", raising a tankard to his own portrait before a title card reads "Albion's greatest Hero", then "retired". Owens: "Arrogant, charming and equally happy with a mace or pint in his hand, Humphry is Albion's greatest Hero. Or at least he was." He has spent recent years "hidden away in the otherwise empty halls of the Guild" (Xbox Wire).

Dave the Giant

9:23 Dave the Giant, played by Richard Ayoade, is met early: a man in a rural village "who discovers a magical growth formula" and "accidentally turns himself into a giant", and the Hero chooses "whether to kill him or to spare him". Owens called Dave "the ultimate British curmudgeon" (Xbox Wire).

Arden the Cobbler

Arden, played by Susan Wokoma, is "a Hero who doesn't believe in Heroes, haunted by a painful past and a grave mistake. ... She doesn't want to be a celebrity. She doesn't want to be worshipped. She just wants to make shoes for a living" (Owens, Xbox Wire).

Jenny and Jacob of Bloodstone

1:54 The Developer_Direct moves from Bowerstone, with its Heroes' Guild and "reclusive Guildmaster", to the north and "the bleak, windswept city of Bloodstone", where "you'll meet the leaders of two rival gangs vying for power". Xbox's cast list names Bloodstone's "two feuding heirs": Jenny (Natasia Demetriou), "brutal, crude, and shameless", who "embodies Bloodstone as it is", and her brother Jacob (Nathan Foad), "a refined and more classy type of cutthroat" who "hopes to reinvent the city as a cosmopolitan rival to Bowerstone" (Xbox Wire).

Connor

Connor, played by Kwame Augustine, is "the player's brave, popular and capable adoptive brother", who "always dreamed that one day he'd be the one who grew into a Hero. How he responds to simply being a normal person in a world where extraordinary people exist is the driving force of his story" (Owens, Xbox Wire). Xbox has not said whether he is turned to stone with the rest of Briar Hill.

Grandma (Samira)

Samira, played by Nina Wadia, is "the player and Connor's adoptive grandmother, having found them both abandoned in the woods, years apart", and landlady of the Rose & Thorn, Briar Hill's pub, with "little patience for misbehaving kids, or adults who fail to pay their tab" (Owens, Xbox Wire). She is turned to stone at the start of the story (Xbox Wire).

Nigel, Sheriff of Silverbrook

Nigel, played by Robert Whitelock, is "the well-meaning Sheriff of Silverbrook", "a man eternally out of his depth. Bumbling and socially anxious" (Owens, Xbox Wire). Silverbrook is the settlement Dave the Giant's fate changes (Xbox Wire).

The Jack of Blades

The Jack of Blades, villain of the original Fable, appeared in "a first glimpse" in the Jun 7, 2026 trailer; his role has not been announced (official site).

Colin the Pig, villagers, and no dog

Beyond the story cast, Albion has more than 1,000 hand-made villagers, each with a name, a job, a home and a Trait, described on Living Population. One became famous before launch: Ralph Fulton said "Colin the Pig seems to be a breakout star" of the gameplay deep dive Playground showed in June 2026 (Official Xbox Podcast, Sep 9, 2026). There is no dog companion like the old games' dog: Insider Gaming reported Fulton telling IGN that "a substantial number of people on the team" had yet to forgive him for that decision (Insider Gaming, Jan 22, 2026). Playground has not announced companions who travel with the Hero, as of Oct 21, 2026.
