Romance, Marriage and Children
In Fable every adult villager can be dated, married, lived with and had children with, though not all at once, and your Reputations decide who is willing. Marrying several people in one settlement can get you blackmailed.
In Fable you can date, marry, live with and have children with every adult villager, "but not necessarily all at the same time", and your Reputations decide who is willing (Xbox Wire, Jun 10, 2026). In this part of the Developer_Direct segment (GameSpot's upload, Jan 22, 2026) a developer lists "Romancing a villager, getting married, having kids", the Hero asks "fancy a date?" and the answer is "Perfect. You can get to know me better"; on screen, in a candlelit tavern, a "Dating Gift" menu offers a Wild Flower Bouquet. The store page sells it as "romance a villager (or three), have a bunch of kids" (Steam). Romance runs on the same villagers as the Living Population and the same opinions as Reputation and Morality. Fable launches on Feb 23, 2027.

Dating and gifts
Courting starts with conversation and gifts. In Xbox's Developer_Direct teaser (Jan 22, 2026) the Hero says "Fancy a date?" while a "Dating Gift" panel lists three items, with the Wild Flower Bouquet selected. That bouquet is part of the Pre-Order Content Pack, with a Toy Chicken and a Scones & Jam Picnic Hamper, and the Premium Edition adds three each of Queen's Bouquets, Bags of Offal and Decadent Gold Leaf Bread (Playground Games, Jun 7, 2026); see Editions and Pre-order Bonuses.
Who will have you depends on what they think of you. Dan Greer, Lead Game Designer, writes that "some NPCs may hate you for the same reasons another will fancy you", and "It's obviously easier to start a relationship with an NPC that fancies you", but even one who "absolutely hates you" can be won over: "there are various actions you can take to change their opinion of you" (Xbox Wire, Jun 10, 2026). Ralph Fulton, GM and Game Director, says a settlement's Reputations affect "how likely they are to be romanced by you, if you can marry them" (Xbox Wire, Jan 22, 2026), and that you come to know what each villager is "looking for in a partner".
Marriage and living together
Every adult NPC can be married, and you can move in together. Romance has a cost for others: "you will inevitably break up some households in order to begin a relationship or move in with someone, which will then affect how the other people involved feel about you. These aren't unrecoverable situations" (Xbox Wire, Jun 10, 2026). Fulton has said the story waits while you do it: you "could go to the most northerly village in Albion, get a job, settle down and get married if you want" (Xbox Wire, Jan 22, 2026). Homes to share are on Property and Jobs.
The 30-minute "Build an Extraordinary Life" gameplay video showed a romance in practice. On Digital Foundry's DF Direct Weekly #268 (Jun 15, 2026), a host sums it up as "25 minutes of basically trying to... manage the town nicely and be a great person to everyone and... romance the local shopkeeper", before the Hero turns on the town.
Several spouses and blackmail
Fable lets you marry more than once. In the Developer_Direct segment developers go on: "Marrying a bunch more people, having a bunch more kids, probably getting divorced along the way for good measure." Greer explains the risk: "if you marry multiple NPCs in a settlement, you might get blackmailed by someone who knows your secret", and the choices you make in that encounter "can have a dramatic effect on your relationships with one or both partners" (Xbox Wire, Jun 10, 2026). Being a bigamist is also one of the Reputations a settlement can give you (Fulton, Xbox Wire, Jan 22, 2026).
Divorce
The divorce line above is the only mention so far; CGMagazine attributes it to Will Kennedy, Associate Game Director, as a joke (CGMagazine, Jan 22, 2026). How a marriage ends, and what a breakup does to the house and children, has not been described, as of Oct 21, 2026. Greer notes that killing someone's spouse makes them "hold a grudge".
Children
You can have children with any adult villager you are with (Xbox Wire, Jun 10, 2026), and the store promises "a bunch of kids". Playground has not described how children grow up, what they do, or whether they can be adopted, as of Oct 21, 2026. The Hero's own childhood, in Briar Hill, is the opening of the story.
Same-sex relationships
Playground and Xbox have not said in any source we found whether same-sex relationships and marriages are possible, as of Oct 21, 2026. The official wording is "every adult NPC in the game", with no condition on the Hero; we will add an answer when Playground gives one.

Living PopulationFable's "Living Population" is its cast of more than 1,000 hand-designed villagers, each with a name, a Trait, a home, a job and a daily schedule, all fully voiced by about 100 actors. The Hero can befriend, employ, rent to, marry or kill every adult among them. -
Reputation and MoralityFable has no good-or-evil meter. Deeds that someone sees, or that you repeat, earn the Hero Reputations such as "Chicken Chaser", kept separately in each settlement (up to six at once), and every villager judges them by their own worldview, which changes catcalls, romance, marriage and shop prices.

Editions and Pre-order BonusesFable sells in a $69.99 Standard Edition and a $99.99 Premium Edition, which adds Early Access from Feb 18, 2027, two armor sets, nine gifts, a digital artbook and soundtrack and the Order of the Hero expansion. Every pre-order until launch gets the Chicken Suit pack; the Collector's Edition sold out in June 2026.

Property and JobsIn Fable the Hero can buy any house or shop (every house in Bowerstone is for sale), become a landlord who sets rent or an employer who sets wages, and take jobs such as blacksmith. Tenants who cannot pay move out, and villagers who dislike you may refuse to work for you. -
Briar HillBriar Hill is the Hero's home village and where Fable begins: the Hero grows up there with Grandma (Samira, landlady of the Rose & Thorn pub) and their brother Connor, until a mysterious stranger turns Grandma and the whole village to stone.

Character CreationFable lets you design your Hero in a character creator, choosing from a range of heads and customizing hairstyle, skin tone, clothing, tattoos and scars. The Hero is voiced by Lily Nichol or Ukweli Roach, and your looks no longer change with your deeds as they did in the Lionhead games.
